ABOUT US
The Kinta Valley Symphonic Society (KVSS) is an Ipoh-based non-profit organisation made for the community by the community. KVSS was the brainchild of the late Dato’ Lim Keng Khay. Supported by a grant from the SiWu Education Trust to purchase instruments, the Kinta Valley Wind Orchestra was founded in 2010. Since its inception under the leadership of the Music Director and Conductor, Mr Eugene Pook, the orchestra has been a platform for many in the community to experience the finer arts of music.
KVSS missions are:
-
Dedicated in providing an opportunity for life-long musical expression and enjoyment, promoting artistic enrichment in Kinta Valley and preserving the rich repertoire symphonic band music.
-
Seeks to inspire individuals to continue their musical endeavors through the encouraging and intimate atmosphere of joint music making.
-
Aims to provide quality and inspiring musical experiences for its members while educating and entertaining the Ipoh community and beyond.
Since its inception, the KVSS has put up annual grand concerts, charity concerts, and shopping complex concerts. Smaller ensembles have performed at outreach concerts, orphanages, senior homes, schools and centers for the disabled. Milestone performances include a concert tour in Taiwan, a concert at the KL Seni Festival with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) at the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas, and the Mount Miriam Charity Cancer Hospital concert in Penang. Recently, KVSS put up a flash mob performance at Kinta City Shopping Center in which the performance was joined by choir members of the Perak Society of Performing Arts.
KVSS endeavors to provide the best musical offerings to all players. These members receive regular personal guidance from the conductors as well as professional musicians from local and aboard. Music camps and concert trips are regularly organized to benefit players. The KVSS is being supported by the Education and Outreach division of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO), Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), and Saint Mary’s University’s Music Department (U.S.A).
